Press Release: Nelson’s Biggest Solar System

Nelson’s biggest solar system up and running

Health @132 on the corner of Collingwood and Hardy Street has had the largest solar photovoltaic system in the region installed. The 200 panel system has a total capacity of 50kWs which will produce 50% of the Medical Centre’s power needs. Most of the power will be used onsite with excess power being sold back to the national grid.
Health @132 Manager Sharon Brinsdon says “We wanted to do something significant for the environment, as well as inspire others to do the same”.
The system was installed by local companies, Solar Electric Technology and Pulse Electrical. Technical Director Lance Double says “businesses generally use the majority of their power during the day when the sun is shining and so solar energy makes a lot of sense. Health @132 is no exception. We fitted a sizable system to dramatically reduce their energy costs and carbon footprint. The solar panels have a 25 year performance warranty; therefore they will end up paying for themselves many times over”.
Despite any formal policies incentivising the up take of solar in New Zealand, solar is proving an attractive option for many households and businesses. The recent move by Vector to partner with Tesla Motors to provide home battery storage in conjunction with solar highlights the growth and potential of solar.
DCIM100MEDIASolar Electric Technology’s Managing Director Frank Witowski says “we’ve continued to see strong sales growth despite the reduction in power buy-back rates by Meridian Energy and Contact Energy late last year. Our approach has been to size systems properly to maximise our customers return on investment. As a result our solar gives great returns on investment while providing clean energy and helping reduce pollution”. We are a long standing local company and happy to meet with new Clients to achieve similar results.

Solar is one of the fastest growing energy sectors in the world with installed capacity expanding rapidly in Europe, North America and the developing world. While it’s still a relatively small player in the New Zealand energy market, many see it as having a bright future because of continued price falls and New Zealand’s relatively high sunshine hours.

Press Release: Nelson And Tasman Lead The Way In Solar

A media release from June 2nd, 2014.                                                                                                             solar_press_release

Figures released today by The Electricity Networks Association shows solar photovoltaic installations have tripled in the last 18 months. Up from 1600 at the end of 2013 to over 5500 today.

Nelson and Tasman in particular have led the way. The national average for solar installations is 12 per 10,000 homes while in Nelson and Tasman that figure is 41 per 10,000 homes.

Solar Electric Technology’s Managing Director, Frank Witowski believes this comes down to a number of factors. “Nelson and Tasman have very high sunshine hours so solar just makes a lot of sense. This coupled with the continuing fall in installation prices explains why so many people in our part of the world are going solar”, says Witowski.

The announcement that solar is starting to pick-up in New Zealand comes on the heals of Vector’s move to start supplying Tesla battery storage in conjunction with solar.

Many in the industry believe solar has a bright future despite no formal support from the government. “If you size a system correctly and use most of the power in your home or business, the return on investment is upwards of 10%”, says Witowski.

Why is Solar Water Heating a good idea?

As a home or business owner, you are no doubt always looking for ways to save as much money as possible. Heating water is often a very large part of the power bill that property owners receive every month. So how can you reduce this cost?

Solar water heating is an excellent option if you want to reduce your power bill. Just like a PV electric solar system, it uses the sun’s energy to heat your water, saving your from having to pay for power to do it. How does it do this?

Water from the bottom of the cylinder is pumped by a pump up to the solar panels. This water in the panel is then heated by the sun and flows back to the hot water cylinder. A digital controller is used to regulate the temperature by controller when the pump turns on and off. This allows the water to stay at the set temperature.

Sustainable Energy, Is It Possible?

As technology advances, more and more solutions for energy are looked into to find a solution for fsustainable_energy_is_possibleully renewable and sustainable energy. But is it possible?

Today, sustainable energy is possible, and is becoming more and more financially realistic for home and business owners alike. There are many solar and natural power generation systems available today including PV panels, wind turbines and micro hydro systems, all which produce power by utilising energy that is already there.

If you are looking to save on power or just want a cleaner and greener way to power your home or business, you need to look into a sustainable energy system. Depending on your location and the availability of resources, it may be best suited to use a single type systems, such as just PV solar, or a combination or systems such as solar and wind turbines.

Charge Your Electric Vehicle At Home!

With the ever increasing efforts to find you means of power, vehicle manufacturers have more and more looked to electricity for the cars of the future. Electric cars are becoming more popular as each day goes past, and our lives around them will have to adapt in order to be able to use them fluently as we do their petrol counterparts.

Charging electric vehicles has always been one of the biggest milestones. Not any more! With the Delta EV Charge Station, you can now charge your vehicle at home. And what’s better, it uses solar power to charge it!

The Delta EV Charge Station is designed to integrate into existing solar systems so that it can be used with essentially all commercial and residential solar installations. This is the perfect solution if you have been considering an electric car or have one already to go along with your solar powered home.

Why Would You Need A Power Generator With Solar?

If you are looking into an off grid power system, one thing you should consider including in your solar system is a power generator.

Why do you need a power generator? By nature, solar PV systems are dependent on may factors to produce your electricity such as available sunlight, the design of the system, the size of the system and so forth. It is very difficult to guarantee that you will always have enough power generated for your needs, unless your system is oversized for the regular demand.

Having a backup is never a bad option, and a power generator is a good solution in the case that you do need extra power. They are an efficient option and can be either petrol or diesel. We supply Pramac generators which can be tailored to fit your requirements.

If you need a power generator, visit our power generators page for more information or call us on

Ground Mounted Solar PV Panels

We installed a 5kWp grid tie solar system on a ground mounted solar frame in Motueka near Nelson.

The ground mount frame was done due to the roof of the house not facing the right direction and excessive shading on the roof from surrounding trees. As the client had plenty of room near to the house it made sense to use the ground mount option.

The ground mounted frames are very sturdy and have an engineers certification to verify that it will withstand over 200km/hr of wind. The posts are concreted into the ground to ensure soil types do not effect the wind rating.

This is one example of a custom designed and installed solar system depending on requirements. If you would like to enquire about a similar system, call us today on 0800 765 270.
