This off grid power system is designed for an average daily consumption of up to 2kWh and would generally be suited to a Bach situation or a small home with a very small daily load.

  • Flat mounted solar mounting frame,
  • Outback power station (3kW Inverter/Charger, 80amp controller, monitor & breakers),

  • Installation labour.

A backup generator can be connected to the system to back up the system if there is limited sunshine to charge the batteries or if there are short periods of increased loads.

2kWh Off-Grid Case Study
In early 2014 we upgraded the existing Off-Grid power system on a Bach in Glenhope near Nelson.
The Bach is used on a regular basis for the weekend or up to a week or so at a time and while occupied the daily consumption is just under 2kWh/day.

Now with the new solar system (780watt) installed the backup generator is hardly ever required.

In addition to the solar system we replaced some existing lighting with new LED lights to reduce some load and increase the quality of the lighting inside.

3.5kWh Off-Grid Case Study

In 2010 we installed an off grid power system on a house in Portage Bay, Marlborough.

The house has a retired couple living there most of the year with a daily consumption around 3.2kWh/day.

The couple have a small electric fridge, lighting, washing machine, TV, radio and water pump as well as a few addition kitchen appliances and power tool now and then.

A backup generator is used to top up the battery bank in times of extended bad weather or if there is increased consumption while friends and family stay during holiday periods

5.5kWh Off-Grid Case Study

In 2011 we installed an Off-Grid power system on a shed in Redwood Valley near Nelson to power the client’s house nearby.

We fitted a Solar Water Heating system on the house roof and so there was not a lot of additional room available for the solar PV panels and as the battery bank was to be installed in the shed, it made sense to fit the solar PV panels there too.

The house is around 300m2 and their daily consumption of around 5kWh is fairly consistent with most family sized systems we install.

Their house has a standard fridge/freezer, LED lighting, washing machine, dish washer, TV, radio, computer, solar water heating under floor heating and fresh water supply pumps as well as a few addition kitchen appliances and power tool now and then.

Cooking is done with a gas over and they also have a wood oven which provides additional heat for the underfloor heating system and the domestic hot water.

A backup generator is used to top up the battery bank in times of extended bad weather or if there is increased consumption while friends and family visit.

8kWh Off-Grid Case Study

In 2013 we installed an Off-Grid power system on a home in Taupo for a young family of 5.

The house is around 280m2 and their daily consumption of around 7.8kWh is slightly more than the average family sized systems we install. In addition to this the sunshine hours in Taupo are a bit less than areas like Nelson and Marlborough.

Their house has a standard fridge/freezer, chest freezer, LED lighting, washing machine, dish washer, TV, radio, computers, fresh water supply pump as well as a few addition kitchen appliances and power tool now and then. As the client works from home fairly regularly, this has increased their daily consumption above an average off Grid home.

Cooking and water heating is done with a gas and a log burner is used to heat the house in conjunction with a heat transfer system.

A backup generator is used to top up the battery bank in times of extended bad weather or if there is increased consumption while friends and family visit.

This client is very happy with their install and we are now looking at completing a system for another family member.

Commercial Off Grid Solar Systems – From $10000 + GST

In some situations it may not be viable or may be impossible to get power to your work site due to its remote location or for other reasons. In this situation an off grid power system may well be a great option for you rather than running a generator continuously or as required. The off grid system can be supported by a generator to ensure you have plenty of energy, even when there is little solar energy available. You may also like incorporate a wind turbine or hydro generation system if you have the resource available to you on site. Off grid power systems need to be designed specifically for the application required of them, due to the huge variation in the peak and daily kW requirements within various application and operations. Because of this we do not offer standard packages as the price is dependent on the design. Our Engineers will work with you to design a system to meet your energy demands, while offering specialist advise on ways to reduce your energy usage, which will reduce the cost of the off grid system required.
