Solar installation for Christchurch retirement village

We have installed PV solar panels on each unit of a new retirement village in Christchurch.

The village containts 70 residential units and each of them has a 3kWp solar array connected to an Austrian made Fronius string inverter.  A Fronius smart meter is also installed to measure energy use and energy production in the home. This monitoring gives the occupant the ability to really keep an eye on their power use and manage their energy better.

As well as the solar power systems, we have installed an Elios Power Reducer in each unit, which diverts any excess solar energy (power not being used by the house) to the the client’s hot water cylinder. This ensures that the bulk of the solar energy produced is consumed on site, rather than being sold to the grid at a reduced rate, thereby maximising the return on investment.

These solar systems will ensure that the monthly outgoings for energy are minimal for these unit owners, who live on limited incomes. If any of the residents was to purchase an electric vehicle, this could also be charged using the solar energy available during the day, thereby reducing their running costs. We expect them all to save a substantial amount of money with these new solar systems.
