Network Tasman voltage change

Your inverter may be leaving solar on the table.

On 13 November 2025, Network Tasman widened the allowable voltage range at every connection point from 230V ±6% to 230V ±10%. If your inverter is still set to the old standard, it may be winding back your export more than it needs to.

What's actually changed

VWider voltage band

The network can now run at 230V ±10% instead of ±6%, giving the grid room to host more solar without tripping voltage limits.

SInverter standard

To take advantage of it, inverters need to be set to AS4777.2:2020 "Australia A" — the current recommended configuration for this network.

$What's at stake

If your settings weren't updated, your inverter may still be constraining export the moment voltage passes the old +6% mark — cutting your output for no reason.

6% → 10%
allowable voltage tolerance at your connection point, effective 13 Nov 2025

Most inverters installed before this date were configured under the old tolerance. That's not a fault — it's just the standard at the time. The fix requires a technician to visit site and update the settings directly — it's not a new part, just a configuration change.

A note on timeframes

We've installed several thousand systems across Nelson, Tasman, Marlborough, and the West Coast since 2009 — many of them under the old voltage standard. Updating settings needs a technician on site, so we're working through requests in the order they're received. Thanks for bearing with us while we get to everyone — we'll be in touch to book your visit.

What we'll do once you request a check

1Look up your system

We'll pull your install details from our records and confirm your inverter model and current firmware.

2Book a site visit

Updating your inverter needs a technician on site, so we'll contact you to arrange a visit at a time that works.

3Confirm it's done

You'll get a short note confirming your inverter is set to the current standard and exporting as it should.

$Cost of the update

A flat $200 (inc GST) covers technician time and travel — no hourly billing, no surprises.

Request your inverter settings check

We've installed thousands of systems over the years, many under the old voltage standard, so there's a lot to work through. Fill this in once and we'll queue your request in the order it's received — no need to call, we'll be in touch.

This update needs a technician on site, so once we reach your request we'll contact you to arrange a visit at a time that works.

While the voltage change itself is great news for your system, the site visit still takes a technician's time and travel to complete properly. We charge a flat $200 (inc GST) for this — no hourly billing, no surprises.
